Sheridan's 46 Chevy Truck

Sheridan's 1946 Chevrolet
Model 3104
1/2 Ton pick-up

Welcome to my Chevy Art Deco Page.  This resource web started as blog of sorts on the restoration of my 1946 1/2 ton Chevrolet Pick-up.   I have since added various links and resources as a reference page for people doing similar restorations.  I will continue to add information over time.  If you have any original documentation or photos for the 41-46 Chevy or GMC trucks that you would like to share, please e-mail it to me for inclusion on the site.

Thanks to those that have followed the restoration over the 8.5 years.  If this is your first visit, click on the "Read about it"  link below for all the details.

Here are my "Before" and "After" photos!

Here's the last couple entries of the Restoration Log:

10/30/2011 Cold rainy day so I decided to put together some reference materials surrounding the colors on these trucks.  I often get e-mails about "what color should this be".  This should help! 1946 Chevrolet Color Specification Guide

07/30/2011 Collector car insurance is due for the next year.  Seems in the last year there have been a few restored '46 Chevy trucks sold at some of the bigger auction houses.  Now the dilemma - what do I insure my truck for?   Barrett-Jackson Lot: 418.1 - 1946 CHEVROLET 3100 PICKUP  $53,000?

06/09/2011 How cool is this!!!  The restoration of my truck is featured in the July/August issue of Vintage Truck!!!  Visit your news stands!!!

03/20/2011 Spring is here!  Woke up today to it raining pretty hard and knocking off the salt from the roads and melting what is hopefully the last of the snow!!  I am planning a few upgrades and additions for 2011 to the truck:

  1. Finish installation of the optional factory radio.  I got the antennae installed last fall and never finished installing the radio.

  2. Install the optional radiator overflow

  3. Install the long awaited spare tire carrier.  Need to complete the restoration of it first but that is a pretty simple job.

  4. Build a custom wood/canvas canopy over the bed for "roadside vegetable sales".  This will be an entirely new adventure for me in woodworking!! My inspiration comes from a truck I saw on e-bay several years ago.  Not sure where the truck ended up but it was located in MN in the lobby of a farm.

  5. Unfortunately, I need to remove the dash, strip it down and repaint it.  Unfortunately, last fall when I was putting the truck away, I dropped a large magnet on the dash putting a nice dent in the dash and chipping the paint pretty good.

  6. I still have not decided if I am going to install the optional Grille guard.  To be honest, I am  not sure if I like the looks.  Either way, it will be shipped out in the next couple weeks to get re-chromed.

09/06/2010 - Labor day now and it was time to labor on the truck.  I finally got brave enough to drill a couple holes in the side!!!  I used a brand new #1 1/8" - 1" step drill bit and it went pretty smooth.

So now I have a dual post red ball whip antenna on the driver's side.  Next step - install the original radio.

Here's the last couple entries of the Events & Shows Page:

2011 Show Schedule.  Have not locked in on any shows for 2011 but we are considering a trip to WI Dells in May for the Dells Automotion show.  I have heard good things about this show so it may be a good excuse to head to the Dells with the kids and the truck.  Other than that, I will be once again volunteering my time at  the Milwaukee Masterpiece (The nicest show in WI in my opinion).   It may also be time to head back to Beloit for the Autorama in the fall.  As for the core of the summer, we have not decided on any shows just yet but will be keeping options open.

09/12/2010  Downtown Delafield Classic Car Show -  BEST OF SHOW SPONSORS CHOICE!!!  This is one of my favorite shows (not just because of the award).  We stumbled across it in 2008 and vowed to get back in 2009 when the truck was completed.  Unfortunately we missed it in 2009 so I was sure to get over to it this year.  They close off the streets and the cars line the streets of downtown Delafield.  I really like this a lot better than cars parked in a field when they belong on the road.  With the downtown Delafield as a backdrop it really makes for a great show.

07/25/2010 Stovebolt.com Heartland Rally - "People's Choice". Today I took a road trip with the truck to Edgerton, WI for a total of 95.5 miles with an average speed of 28.8 (or 34.1 mph moving average) and a top speed of 53.5mph.  I kept that pedal to the floor for a few minutes to get to that 53!!!  Thanks to Archie for pulling this together.  There was a pretty good number of cars and more trucks than you typically see at any show.  I completely forgot my camera but I did take a few with my phone right at the end.  Hopefully others have more photos.  My truck was honored with the People's Choice Award!
