Spare Tire Carrier Information
My search for that elusive spare tire carrier has officially ended ! A
HUGE thanks goes to Michael Davidson from Northeastern Oregon.
Michael learned of my search through this web page and set out on a
mission to find one. As a fellow owner of a '46, this is the type of thing
that really makes this hobby a great one.
Now that I have my hands on all of the needed parts, I updated the below photos to show the correct carrier for a 1946 1/2 ton in addition to some other reference materials that Gene Schneider, VCCA Tech advisor provided me with to confirm my findings. -Please note that the photos that I formerly had posted on this page showed the incorrect parts. Although the person that used the parts did a fin job making them work, they were not correct so i deleted those photos.
First
things first - Taken from the 1947 Engineering features is a comment specific to
the Spare Tire being added to Light delivery Trucks. Seems that during the
war years because of government restrictions spare tires were removed from
trucks. In late 1946 the government removed these restrictions and all of
the new
3100 and 3600 Series trucks were once again equipped with spare tires.
The diagram is from the Parts book.
The diagram is pretty clear and it is easy to see what parts are needed.

Here are some photos of that actual unrestored parts. Once I finish restoring the parts I will include installation photos for reference. I am still missing the slider pin so I will probably have to fabricate or find something that will work. I also need to confirm that the end of the slider bar bolts directly to the bed wood. Stay tuned....
Here's a photo of another type of slider bar (maybe for an AD?). I thought this was what I needed and proceeded to clean it up and paint it. I now realize that it is not correct for my truck so if you recognize it and need it, let me know.
